About Fuel Cost Calculator Online

This tool calculates the fuel cost for any trip. Enter the trip distance, your vehicle's fuel efficiency (mpg or L/100km), and the local fuel price, and the calculator returns the total fuel needed and the dollar cost.

Useful when planning road trips, comparing vehicles for purchase, budgeting commute costs, or splitting fuel expenses among carpool passengers. The output is most accurate when you use a realistic fuel-efficiency figure based on the actual driving (highway vs city) rather than the manufacturer's idealised number.

It also lets you compare two vehicles or two routes side by side — useful when deciding whether a slightly longer but more highway-friendly route is actually cheaper, or whether the fuel savings on a hybrid justify the higher purchase price.

How to use this tool

How to estimate a road trip's fuel cost

  1. Enter the distance in km

"Distance (km)" is the round-trip or one-way distance in kilometres. To convert from miles, multiply by ~1.609 in your head (or use length-converter first).

  2. Fuel L/100km

    "Fuel L/100km" is your car's average consumption — the standard European spec. For US MPG, convert with `L/100km = 235.21 / mpg` (e.g. 30 mpg ≈ 7.84 L/100km).

  3. Price per litre

"Price per liter" is the local pump price. Use the same currency you'll quote the result in.

  4. Press Run

Result returns estimatedLiters (distance ÷ 100 × consumption) and estimatedCost (litres × price), each rounded to 2 decimals. Real-world consumption can be 10-20% higher with AC/highway/cargo.
