About Image To GIF Converter Online

This tool converts an image (or a series of images) to GIF format. For a single image, you get a static GIF with up to 256 colors; for a series of images, you get an animated GIF that loops through the frames.

Use it to convert old images to GIF for legacy systems that still require it, build simple animations from a sequence of frames (slideshow, simple animation, screencast-style frames), or create looping reactions and memes for social media.

GIF has limitations: only 256 colors at a time, no alpha (only on-or-off transparency), and large file sizes for animation. For most modern use cases, PNG (static) or MP4/WebP (animation) are better choices.

How to use this tool

How to convert IMAGE to GIF

  1. Upload your IMAGE file

Click the upload area or drag a IMAGE image. The tool processes files locally.

  2. Convert

Press the Convert button. Sharp decodes the IMAGE and outputs a static GIF. GIF is limited to a 256-color palette, so photographic images will show visible color reduction.

  3. Check the output

Click Download to save the .gif file. Review the thumbnail first — color banding and dithering artifacts are expected when converting continuous-tone images to GIF's restricted palette.

  4. When to use GIF

GIF is best for simple flat-color graphics, icons, or thumbnails where broad compatibility is required. For photos, PNG or WebP will produce far better quality. This tool outputs static GIFs only.
