About Online PDF Editor (canvas)
This online PDF editor lets you annotate, highlight, add text, and make other lightweight edits to a PDF document without installing desktop software.
It is ideal for filling in text fields on forms that were not designed as interactive PDFs, adding signatures or stamps, and marking up documents for review.
For complex structural edits, a dedicated desktop PDF editor will offer more control. This tool focuses on quick, browser-based modifications to existing PDF content.
How to use this tool
How to edit a PDF (visual or text mode)
Upload the PDF
Drop the .pdf into the "PDF file" field. Password-protected files are rejected — unlock them with PDF unlock online first.
Pick a Step
"Step" selects what the run will do: Online canvas editor (default) — place text/image overlays and remove pages; Extract text to editor — pull text into the field below; New PDF from edited text — turn the editor field into a fresh PDF.
Use the matching field
Visual edits live in the on-page studio (writes the internal visualEditsJson). Text edits live in the "Text editor" field. Each Step ignores the other surface, so you can switch back and forth without losing work.
Press Run
Visual returns edited-visual.pdf with your overlays / page removals baked in. Extract returns the extracted text plus a sourcePages count. Save PDF returns edited-from-text.pdf built from the editor text. Complex layouts and scanned pages are NOT edited in-place — only your overlays and removals are guaranteed.
