About Tip Calculator Online
This tool calculates restaurant tips and splits bills between people. Enter the bill amount, the tip percentage you want to leave, and the number of people sharing, and the calculator returns the tip amount, total bill, and per-person share.
Tipping conventions vary widely by country and service: 15-20% is standard in the United States, 10% is common in many European countries, and tipping is often not expected in Japan or Korea. The calculator works with any percentage so it adapts to local norms.
Splitting bills evenly is helpful for group meals; for unequal splits where each person ordered different items, calculate each person's subtotal separately and add a proportional tip. The tool handles round-up logic if you prefer to leave a tip that yields a clean total.
How to use this tool
How to calculate a restaurant tip
Enter the bill
"Bill amount" is the pre-tip total (your subtotal plus any tax already charged). Use the same currency throughout — the tool returns a number, not a formatted price.
Pick the tip %
"Tip %" defaults to 18, a common US sit-down convention. Adjust to your local norm — 10 in many EU countries, 0 in Japan, 20+ in NYC fine dining.
Press Run
Result returns tipAmount (bill × tip% ÷ 100) and total (bill + tip), each rounded to 2 decimal places.
Splitting the bill?
This tool doesn't divide by headcount. Divide the total by the number of diners on your phone or in a calculator after copying the result.
