About AVIF To GIF Converter Online
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a next-generation format based on the AV1 video codec. It delivers exceptional compression — often 50% smaller than JPEG — while supporting transparency, HDR, and wide color gamut.
Converting to GIF is useful when you need a simple animation or a graphic with a limited colour palette that must work in older environments. For full-colour photographs, GIF's 256-colour limit will cause visible quality loss.
This tool converts your AVIF images to GIF directly in the browser. Upload your file, choose a quality preset if available, and download the converted result instantly.
How to use this tool
How to convert AVIF to GIF
Upload your AVIF file
Click the upload area or drag an AVIF image onto it. The conversion runs in the browser pipeline — no cloud upload required.
Convert
Press the Convert button. Sharp decodes the AVIF and outputs a static GIF. Note: GIF is limited to 256 colors, so photos with gradients or fine color detail will look noticeably degraded.
Download the GIF
Click Download to save the .gif file. Check the output thumbnail before using it — color banding is common when converting from a high-bit-depth source like AVIF.
When to use GIF output
GIF output makes sense for simple graphics, icons, or thumbnails that need broad compatibility. For photographic content, WebP or PNG will preserve more detail. GIF cannot produce animations from a still AVIF.
